July 4th 2013   First Trip to Galesville Warf   Second Trip to Galesville Warf
Galseville Warf July 4th Morning
First visit to Galesville Warf Launch.

I had set out very early in the morning to explore some possible launch at the back end of a ball field in Shady Side. Google maps earth view had the possibility of such a launch, and figuring local "kids" would make a trail... I explored the possibility.
Well... at the back of the ball field... it was a complete jungle.. And I mean a complete jungle. The local "kids" have enough friends in the area that they don't need to get to the water at the back of field with the Jungle. There is a Michellen rated 5 star Port-O-John at the ball field. Highly recommended.
NOTE:  As of late 2013 there is now a launch at the Shady Side Park

As I am new to the Chesapeake area I really enjoy the adventure, and the beauty that I have never experienced of the bay, as I had spent most of the last 40 years at the beach.

While exploring I saw one house... that I will have to admit... has much money behind it... but boy was it sure, uh, different. Obviously a builders opinion. I really should have taken a picture but didn't have the camera with me... these days I always have it. A stone/cement wall surrounded the front... and exotic rebar orange gate protected the entrance..
The house had an Arabian influence... with an art deco appeal... but I don't think Snoop Doggy Dog.. Now
Snoop Lion.. With his most stoniest day, would have said... "Hey dats cool." Oh well.. One man's mullet is another's bait.

I back tracked to Galesville Warf and was most pleasantly welcomed to what I call an old school boating/fishing community. Shady Side is much the same... all you old school guys/gals already know the area. I appreciate the beauty of the new wealth and the beautiful houses I have seen on my explorations... but I like the smaller 30+ year old houses with their modest embellishment.

Still July 4th... I launched at Galesville Warf... it's small lot... about 8 cars slots.. only two vacancies that earl morning.
Out to the bay... at this time I didn't have a fish finder per se... but had a copy of the charts with me. I explored the back creek around the corner towards the bay... where the boat salvage yard is. Another beautiful paddle but no fish taking a bite... saw minnows... but it's possible the dissolved oxygen content/salinity/temperature had most of the larger fish out of the creek.

Coming out of the creek.. Back into West River caught a bunch of Croakers...

Promptly at 9a.m.........the local church (still forth of July)... Played the Star Spangled Banner on it's church bells. I almost got teary eyed on a beautiful 4th of July morning. Glassy water... no boat traffic... Just me and the Church bells on the 4th of July (and some croakers that couldn't carry the tune). I explored a little farther towards the bay but not very far.
I knew the annual parade would start around noon in Galesville, and I didn't want to get caught up in the melee.

So ended my first trip to Galesville Warf... nice restaurant on one side... and my "kinda place," Thursday's on the other. Either would be enticing... but I headed home for the 4th, a hand full of nice croakers, and later fireworks a bicycle ride away.
