Sandy Point State Park Kayak Fishing Trip Three....

No catching fish... on into the night..... but yes there are fish down there !
I had wanted to to take a picture of the fish finder showing fish... but every time I passed over some some sonar readings I was worried I would hook up.

Original the idea was to visit Terrapin Beach Launch, to check off another launch site on the bucket list but I was running late and turned into Sandy Point off Route 50 just before the Bay Bridge.

After a cloudy drive and worries about fog, I got in the water around 2:30 p.m.    The tide would be coming in until about 5:30, so it was a good time to launch for the tide turn.   Which has previously proven successful on other fishing trips.

Not really expecting to see many fish, I was quite surprised to find so many, and rather large fish near the bottom along ledges.   This trip was in part a "test" for colder temperatures, as not previously experienced these conditions on a kayak.

It had gotten quite dark with a moonless night by 7:30 p.m.   I noticed a boat coming down from the north that was heading in my direction.   I was a bit worried... being nearly a mile from land and nobody else in sight.   I had my head lamp on and took it off and started waving it in a large semi circle in front of the oncoming boat.   He saw me and started to slow down.    As he got closer the boat was appeared to be a state boat of some kind.. the characteristic "Zodiac" design dark grey green with a center console.   It turned out to be a Natural Resources Police.   And I was glad to see him.   He asked me to come along side and we then chatted for a good while.    It was a pleasurable experience.    But unfortunately I had no fish to proudly display.    I headed back to port shortly afterwards, it was getting late and very dark.   Unfortunately with many fish still showing on the sonar.

I was using two trolling rigs off the rear... white bucktail jig on one and a chartreuse on the other.    Both rigs were using a bottom fishing setup, with a second lure of an artificial eel on one and the other a large Gulp chartreuse.   I was also trolling a large green shad with good artificial eyes and some glow.    I had two top water rigs on the front if perhaps I was lucky enough to come on upon some birds and surfacing fish.   I slow trolled and jigged over the fish.    Maybe live eels would have produced better results... some times you just don't know and never will.    Of course a better fisherman may have worked !   Could have been all that turkey and stuffing I had been eating for a week ?

Getting home near nine p.m. ,   I fired up the grill and made a big fat hamburger.

And for a special treat....
the Christmas and Holiday lights of Sand Point State Park were on as I exited.
